The Healing Brain

"Now is the time for us to recognize the ancient art of folk healing, and the sacred rituals that safeguard them."

In the last few decades there has been growing interest in alternative forms of therapy on a global scale. This has stimulated the development of a kind of tourism for well-being, with spas and hotels offering all different kinds of holistic treatments for many seeking healing on a deeper level. Not just your average symptom check.

Some healing practices are considered to be sacred and are held in very high esteem with rituals that help to safeguard them by the folk healers that come from all levels of society. Now is the time for us to recognize their work and stop throwing medicine at everything that ails us...Not that the body doesn't need conventional interventions from time to time...but long-term chronic illness is a clarion call to change.

The limbic system, being the information center (or 'feeling re-acting brain) can be re-synchronized using an auditory effect...perhaps 'bio-feedback' or brain entrainment frequencies, to re-set the neural circuits and disrupt any signals causing distress to the system.

"As we practice moving from a reactive/external point of reference to a state of 'inner calm' , we begin to author our own lives by being in control of our responses."

Meditation itself can create these same neural changes in the brain as it raises our awareness and clears the clutter that accumulates in our consciousness on a daily basis...Many spas and hotels include such activities with their 'getaway packages' as a means of attracting the desired clientele to their establishments.

It would seem extraordinarily important for each of us to develop a healthy practice of such activity, even if for a few minutes daily...as exercising our brains is just as important as exercising our bodies for maintaining optimal health...Perhaps we might see a decrease in the huge percentage our elderly population experiencing Alzheimer's and Dementia symptoms...a sad result of our overly medicated society.

As we practice moving from a reactive/external point of reference to a state of 'inner calm', we begin to author our own lives by being in control of our responses. It is a reflection of one's ability to transform their experience of the world by mastering their emotions and taking responsibility for the leading role they play in the outcome of their experiences, as any unresolved emotional conflict will most assuredly manifest at the physical level.

"Basically, we are all exactly where we are at because of how well or how poorly, we have used our own brains."

No one is a victim. All of our thoughts and actions create what we experience in the material world. It would best serve our growth to make a conscious effort to "act" accordingly in any given situation. Certainly not an easy thing to do when one experiences a trauma, but then again, it's all the MORE reason to. Painful situations cast a shadow on the very aspects of our lives that are the most in need of healing.

My good friend Deb Helfrich outlines this concept perfectly in her comment from a recent discussion:

"Basically, we are all exactly where we are at because of how well or how poorly, we have used our own brains. Which is not to say there aren't real world obstacles - there most assuredly are. But the internet has given us access to enough stories to know that there are people joyfully battling circumstances that we presume would kill us.

They are thriving because they chose to use their brains for their own best outcomes. They accept the hand life dealt them and continue to play the game with panache and a gratitude for being able to breathe today.

However, don't ever under-estimate that this is a daily practice, because guaranteed coming up in the next few days will be something to trigger you out of gratitude and acceptance into whining. That is the human condition.

But we are all stronger than our whines, as long as we trust in this last quote: "You are more than enough. You are perfect. Now go out in the world and be the perfection that you are."

"If we begin to study the physics of the soul (or the higher mind) and see that the state of our mind is at the epicenter of our health, we begin to live and breathe more intelligently and realize our disease states are our own minds reaching out to us for healing."

Blessings,
